Cece Segarra, is Miami’s shining star. “I have always been consistent with what I wanted in life, and I’ve never strayed away from that.” She has worked hard to hold her title dear to her and being a latin/pop artist, Cece shows the world that being young, dedicated and persistent pays off in the end. A singer, dancer, song writer and perfect product for the youth to immulate, Miss Cece Segarra, definitely prove if you keep God first, things can definitely, “Go Your Own Way”. “My focus is to really show everyone who Cece is.”

Labeled the Princess of Miami, Cece allows you to step in her world and see her for the fun, bubbly, and caring personality that has, that will take her far in her career.

SMAG( Mechelle): Transitioning from states and career paths, dancing to now singing. How did you break yourself into the industry?

Cece: Well it was kind of like a fourth fate because I kept running into to everyone in the industry from producers to song writers to managers and I love singing anyway… I used to sing in church and school, so I figured why not expand my horizons and see how far I can go with my music. The door has been opening in every direction so I said let me try it. I can’t run away from this so let me try its not going to hurt.

SMAG(Mechelle): How does it feel to be classified the Princess of Miami?

Cece: Umm its overwhelming, but in a good way. I’ve learned to live up to that and every person I’ve had an interview with or anybody I have met in the industry, they seem to have been impressed with me. I guess they wasn’t expecting everything I came with, because when I come, I come hard you know. So I’m honored to be the Princess of Miami its kind of cool. I said ok, there’s no female singer coming out Miami so I stole the spot and I‘m taking advantage now.

SMAG(Mechelle): You didn’t steal the spot you earned it.

SMAG(Mechelle): Do you feel any pressure having that title other than being the only female singer in Miami?

Cece: Oh there’s always pressure. I work better under pressure so I wouldn’t have it any other way. I would rather than be pressured to make a hit than to be pressured to serving someone food you know. I used to be a waitress, so I always like to go back in time and just realize that I’m doing something that I love so don’t complain about,” Oh my God I have to wake up 6 o’clock in the morning to do a photo shoot or “Oh I’m about to go in the studio to meet with a Grammy Award winning writer and singing there for hours” What’s there to complain about? There’s all kind of pressure at all sorts of different levels but at the end of the day, put it towards what you want to do. There’s going to be good times and bad times but when you think about it in the long run, its beautiful.

SMAG(Mechelle): You came out with the single, “Go Your Own Way” featuring Gucci Mane which is taking the air waves by storm. Are you currently doing a new single? Is your new single Outerspace?

Cece: “Go Your Own Way” is still out and you know its so funny because they just spinned it and another one overseas so I’m like holy crap!! its going all the way over there? Yeah but we’re currently working on another single I’m about to push. I’m not at liberty to discuss that at the moment but I can tell you that its definitely that’s the, “Hello My Name Is Cece” track, that‘s a burner. So “Go Your Own” Way is still in the air waves, I’m not going to stray away from that one, but we are currently working on pushing out a new single that will be hitting the airwaves very very soon… I have a lot of good music and I’m not just saying that because I’m a new artist but I’m telling you the truth. I have a lot of music that I think will surprise the audience and its something fresh. So if you think “Go Your Own Way” was hot just wait until you hear everything else.

SMAG(Mechelle): A lot of times when new artists come out the public has the habit of comparing them to current artist, you with Christina Milian. Do you feel as though you would have to prove your individuality to the world?

Cece: I I usually ask people, if you can compare me to an artist who would you compare me to? And I’m always getting a mix of Rihanna and Beyonce. I don’t know if that’s because of my appearance because I know I don’t sound like anyone of them and don’t get me wrong they’re both beautiful singers. My focus is to really show everyone who Cece is and I don’t want to speak in third person so (laugh)… I want to show people who I am with my music and I’m really trying to separate myself from your everyday artist. Everyone wants something new and I feel like I have that. So its all about bringing wonderful entertainment, it may sound corny but its true.

SMAG(Mechelle): What is your definition of a fan?

Cece: My definition of a fan….Is someone who admires a certain someone and looks up to them and appreciates what they do in life. Basically supportive of their decisions. In my case, I’m more focused on being a role model especially for the younger generation. When I was younger I was looking for a role model and couldn’t find it. So I really want to be that and send positive messages through my music. Right now its kind of crazy with the industry and stuff like that so that’s one of my important goals. I really want to reach out to the young girls and young boys and let them know that its ok to turn down certain things and accept who are as an individual. That’s my focus. So ultimately I’m heavily involved in humanitarian work and people who know me know I’m always giving, its natural. I think I get it from my parents.

SMAG (Mechelle): Being a positive role model for the youth, are you involved with current charities?

Cece: Right now I do a lot of work with my church. I go to Abundant Living Ministries in Davie Fl, So I’ve been doing a lot of stuff with them. Right now I’m trying to get in with the Boys and Girls Club, but with my schedule I’m trying to earn my spot in the industry so that way I can have a say and my voice is heard. From there I definitely want to take advantage of hopefully opening my own foundation or non-profit organization

SMAG(Mechelle): When you have a moment to yourself, what are some of the things you like to do in your “me” time?

Cece: I love love love spending time with my family. My younger sister, she just had a baby and I love my little nephew. I’m such a beach person so you will catch me on the beach listening to my head phones, writing and working out. The gym is a great way to let out some stress and really let yourself go. Those are three main things. Family is going to keep you sane and let you know what’s up, and then the “me” time is usually right in front of the water…. I live two blocks away so its perfect.

SMAG(Mechelle): What are 5 things you cant live without?

Cece: 5 things I can’t live without….Unfortunately and its kind of sad that I can’t live without my blackberry. I’m trying to deny that but if I really focused on it, I swear I’m on it like every five minutes and its not like I’m sitting there waiting for someone to hit me up, I actually have work to do on it (laughing). One would be my black berry, of course I can’t live without my family. I can’t believe I just put black berry first (laughing). Put family first and blackberry last. I cant live without chocolate. Chocolate is like the best thing ever invented by man. I cant live without… my I pod oh God, no that’s where a lot of my work and inspiration comes from, all the music on there. The fifth one which will be number 1, I can’t live without my God. So it’s God, family, then chocolate (laughing), my I pod, then Blackberry. That’s a great little mixture (laughing).

SMAG(Mechelle): What are your ultimate goals as an artist?

Cece: Ultimately, I really want to make a difference. I want to really be a positive influence. My job wouldn’t be done if I didn’t change some ones life in some kind of way with my music or me being who I am. Being able to give great shows because that’s my biggest thing. I’m a big fan of broadways, plays and acting, so everyone one of my shows you’re going to see some kind of acting. If I didn’t deliver a huge show, then my job wouldn’t be done.

SMAG(Mechelle): Being an artist in the industry and the effect of what has happened with Chris Brown, now he is reaching out to his fans when it should have be done to begin with. What would be your advice to any new artist as it pertains to their fans?

Cece: That’s a tough situation… Basically you have to really remember where you came from, and if it wasn’t a good place make it a good place in the end. Try to strive for better don’t strive for worst. Especially when you’re going to be in the spotlight in front of all these people that want to know the bad in your life and try to bring out the bad in your life. You have to overcome that and really become a strong individual. It’s kind of hard because you have a lot of people that come up to me and say , “Oh my God you’re gong to be a star” but in the end I’m reminding myself that no its not me, I get this from a higher power. So I have to remind myself not to be big headed because I didn’t give myself this voice, I didn’t give myself this talent so I have to remember to be positive and be strong. There are going to be a lot of people out there to manipulate you and bring out the bad…If you’re really strong then you can overcome that. So take it as a challenge to be strong.

SMAG (Mechelle): Do you have any fear when it pertains to the industry?

Cece: There are fears but I try not to think about them. I guess I would have to say losing sight of who I am, or who I was. I told my family if you ever notice a change in my behavior or my personality to just knock me back into reality. I don’t want to become one of those people who, “ I remember when she was so nice, and she was so cool, now she’s mean or a diva” that’s not what I’m about. To be in this industry you have to be personable, approachable and you have to be likeable and once that’s gone, people start losing respect for you. I don’t want anyone to think that I’m all Hollywood, that’s not the case. When people see me, I want them to feel like they can come up to me and say , “Hi I like your music” I am going to talk to you, I’m not going to give you the two fingers and be out (laughing) So yep that would be it.

SMAG(Mechelle): If you had the option to create your own definition of beauty, how would you define it?

Cece: My definition of beauty is within a person…Basically its someone soul and someone’s heart, I don’t really go based off of appearance or how someone dress or how you wear your hair its about who the person is on the inside. I sound like a little poet.

SMAG(Mechelle): Well if you are a writer then you are a poet. With that in itself, you’re able to give knowledge so embrace that.

Cece: I am. I’m still young and sometimes I sound like a little nerd and people want to laugh when I say certain things. Of course the people are in my age group, but its going to take me far. I’ve grown tremendously over time and that’s because I have always been consistent with what I wanted in life, and I’ve never strayed away from that. So I guess with that I have been able to mature faster with that said. So when I entered into this business, I‘ve been so focused and determined to make this work, that I didn‘t have time to go clubbing, I didn‘t have time to hang out or do the things that a normal 20 year old would do… and I‘m about to be 21 soon April 8th (laughing) I‘m really excited about that but yeah it kind of forced me to mature faster and I don’t have a problem with that because I know when it’s a time and a place to act appropriately.

SMAG(Mechelle): Are there any fashion designers that you’re into? Or what you consider fashion now a days?

Cece: Oh yes!!! I’m a huge fashion buff.. I’m all about bringing up new designers as well. So I have to give a shout out to some new local (clothing) companies in Miami that I actually did some modeling for. First, “Bird Club Clothing” out of Miami, and “Married To The Mobb” which is based out of New York. Its all young, hip hop, fresh gear. Of course I am a huge fan of Louis Vutton, Chanel, Christian Louboutin, I love Marc Jacob, a more mature line. Now for a more affordable line I know everyone or every young girl go to “Forever 21” I’m sorry whenever I go into that store I find everything I need!! Forever 21 I hope you guys can sponsor me because I am always finding what I need. Any other store, you have to really look through that store. One thing about me is I love putting random things together. I’ll make my shirt and I’ll make my shoes…. so I’m working on it. I have a lot of shows and I have a lot of dancers and we need gear, we do big shows. So I will wear whoever wants to sponsor me (laughing).

SMAG(Mechelle): Is there anything you want to say to your fans that we haven’t discussed?

Cece: Yeah sure. I make the music for you guys so keep that in mind. This is all for fans…I mean I can’t make music and have no one like it. So feel free to hit me, I’m on twitter, I’m on face book. I’m on all those random websites that you can possibly think of.

SMAG(Mechelle): Now them to find out your events do they log on your website?

Cece: Yeah cecesegarra.com very easy and we’re updating that daily. So that’s the spot to find out any upcoming events on me.

The multi-talented pop princess, CeCe Segarra is doing it big! CeCe started her career as a dancer for the New York Knicks, which has led her to her new career in singing and performing. Born and raised in the Bronx, New York, CeCe has always aspired to be a singer. Now at the age of 20, CeCe is taking Miami by storm and she will certainly be making a SPLASH! Just recently be signed to Weight Records, CeCe has already been able to work with rap super star, Gucci Mane. Despite her tight schedule, CeCe was able to answer a few questions for Right On!

RO: How long have you been singing/recording?

CeCe: 4 years, professionally.

RO: How long have you been signed with Weight Records?
CeCe: I got signed to them 7 months ago.

RO: What would you consider your genre of music to be?
CeCe: Technically Pop, but I try to incorporate everything such as hip-hop, salsa and rock.

RO: Who or what has been your biggest inspiration?
CeCe: Aside from my Mother, I would have to say Tina Turner. I grew up listening to her music. I fell in love with her drive and courage and I wanted to emmulate her.

RO: How was it working with Gucci Mane on the song “Go your own way”?
CeCe: He is a character. I love him and his personality. He just seemed like a perfect match, for “Go Your Own Way”. Love his style and his vocal. I was nervous at first because I didn’t know what kind of personality he had. I am a very energetic, charismatic person but he seemed to match that. It turned out to be a great and fun experience.

RO: What other artists have you worked with?
CeCe: At the moment, none. Gucci Mane is the first. I do however have some Grammy award winning writers and star producers on my new album.

RO: What other artists would you like to work with?
CeCe: Wow, there are so many, but to name a few, I would love to work with Trey Songz, Ne-Yo, Keri Hilson and Ludacris.

RO: Has music always been your first love?
CeCe: Music has always been here for me. But, anything in the performing arts field; singing, dancing, instruments and acting. Dance was first thing that I tackled and everything just progressed from there.

RO: What instruments do you play?
CeCe: Piano, Saxophone, Clarinet and I’ve played the drums, but I’m not that great at it.

RO: Do you have any other talents?
CeCe: I used to train in Tae Kwon Do and got up to red belt. My mom made me stop because I broke finger. I love martial artists, swimming, and running. I was actually on my High School track team, and I was one of the fastest. I can do pretty much anything athletic.

RO: What has been your biggest challenge in this industry?
CeCe: Taking orders from so many different people. There are so many different personalities in this industry.
One person says one thing another says something else so sometimes you stretch yourself out too thin. Learning how to adapt to being pulled in so many different directions has definitely been a big challenge.

RO: Do you write ALL of your own music?
CeCe: I do write. I’ve written a couple of songs on the album. I’ve also Co-written a lot of songs on my new album.

RO: Where does your inspiration come from, in terms of writing your music?
CeCe: Everyday life, whatever I go through or whatever I’m feeling. Basically anything that has to do with me personally. I just turn it into music.

RO: What kind of impact do you plan on leaving in the music industry?
CeCe: A strong, fun, enjoyable, positive impact. The industry needs a change, it needs some positivity. I want to be a good influence on the new generation. I would love to be a good role model to younger boys and girls.

RO: What advice would you give to someone trying to do what you do?
CeCe: Persistency and determination. Never let anyone tell you “NO”. Use that No as your AMMO and turn it into a YES.

RO: Do you have a favorite genre of music?
CeCe: Not really, I love ALL music from, Country to Rock to Classical to Hip-Hop. EVERTYHING!!

RO: Who is your favorite artist?
CeCe: I can’t just choose one so it would have to be, Tina Turner, Madonna and Michael Jackson (R.I.P.).

RO: How did you make the transition from dancer to singer?
CeCe: I’ve been bouncing back and forth between music and dance. I never put singing aside, but I also never put dancing aside. I was given an opportunity to dance and I took it. I came back to Miami and decided to combine both singing and dancing.

RO: Do you miss dancing for the Knicks?
CeCe: I do. It was definitely a great experience. It taught me how to be more disciplined and never give up. It was a huge challenge and I love a challenge.

RO: Is singing something that you knew you always wanted to do?
CeCe: YES it is. Music has always been apart of my life.

RO: When can we expect your first album?
CeCe: This fall (2010). I pray that it just sky rockets. This album has every aspect of who I am as both a person and an artist.

RO: What do you think sets you apart from other artists?
CeCe: Definitely my personality and my charisma. Also, my love for people and music.

RO: What is the best part about doing what you do?
CeCe: Performing, traveling and just being able to show case my music

RO: Do you get nervous on stage?
CeCe: Surprisingly, no. I just get really anxious. I would probably get nervous in a smaller group of people rather then a large group of people.

RO: Where can people go to learn more about you or hear your music?
CeCe: My Website: www.cecesegarra.com
Twitter @cecesegarra, www.facebook.com/cecesegarra or www.myspace.com/cecesegarra

I just had my first listening party at the Hot Beats studio in Atlanta and it was a huge success. Some of the industries heavy hitters made an appearance, along with photographers, writers, A&R’s, and of course FANS. BTW, every single one of my events ALWAYS involve food. Gotta love it!

So this year at Winter Music Conference in Miami, I hung out with some of the Hottest DJ’s today. From the Def Jam party at the Gansevoort Hotel to Ultra Fest. On top of all these events, my very own truck was riding around Miami with my photos on it, while playing my hit single “Go Your Own Way” on huge flat screen on the side of the truck. Talk about PROMO!
